Roll top desk

Recommended Posts

I found a nice roll top desk on craigslist for $100, its going to be perfect for tying flys and storing my materials. when not in use I will flip the top down and hide the mess from the wife and kids..Plus since we are moving into our new house in 2 months I wanted to have a nicer piece of furnature..Funny the things that get people excited.

Its best to plan ahead, the wife has to let it in the house now and you guarantee your fly tying space, had you left it she may have had you in a shed in the garden.

I started using a roll top desk when I got married. My wife's cats just couldn't handle the temptation. I just close the top to keep the cats away ...

I have the fold up front secretary desk, bought with same intention. Used to have it in the dining room and only folded it up once for a party. Now that I have it in my bedroom, I have yet to fold it up.

Having a dedicated tying space is essential, in my opinion. Mine is in the basement, on the "finished" side (paneling, carpet, drop ceiling). Since I am really the only one who goes down there, I can let the deer hair, fur and feather scraps fly and I don't have to clean until I get grossed out by it. :) If I had to do my tying in the family's general living space, I would definitely go for the roll-top. Great find!

I got an old roll top desk about 5 years ago and love it! You're right the are terribly heavy. spent a couple months stripping, re-staining and adding new hardware to it. Lined the drawers with felt...love it but needed to get creative with the lighting and can't bring myself to use a clamp on it...great find hopefully you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

a roll top is surely nice but i wouldnt have the room for one in my mobile home.

to ME, i would have that cramped in feeling. i like an open table top.
