BassMouth87 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 First attempt at a proper Akroyd....was so focused on the wings that I forgot to tie in the collar/beard! DOH!
FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 Oh kool little one there! You actually have done a delta wing *edit* traditionally it is a dee wing, and i prefer a tented wing but swing it! The dee wing set is great with more drooping jc nails. Here is my fave akroyd sbs, and as a canadian you should understand the french lol. http://www.jpdessaigne.com/Lesmouchessaumon/akroyd/Akroyd_montage.htm
BassMouth87 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 It turned out better then I figured it would, but still obviously room for improvement. Thanks for the SBS, will give it a one over. At the moment I am trying to tie with what I have as far as wings go....that single fly easily took me a little over 1/4 of a matching pair of feathers to get done lol. FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 What is the hook btw? Looks a stout iron, which will be good for these giant chinook we shall slay quite soon.

FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 I felt like tying a batch of those things i can't really call akroyds, white goose tented ( poorly) size 5. Damn you macro!
BassMouth87 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 I think they look good, WAY better then what I have been turning out today lol...pictures to follow. I cannot seem to get my wings to tent at all...not to mention on the majority of my flies one side of the wing overlaps the other...lots of practice for sure...hopefully they still fish well without twisting my leaders to bad. sunsignarcher 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2013 Cute face on that bumble bee, Rolsen. My wife wants me to tie one just like it ... without the hook point ... and make an earring out of it. I hope it catches fish as well as it caught my wife. I tied that one just for fun. Eyes are made of UV glue and painted black with water proof marker. That mouse and bee are flat out perfect. Are you burning the hair? Thanks I was lazy with the bee and used lighter, would normally steam the hair and then cut it again. What does steaming the hair do?
