Randyflycaster 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2013 After watching a video I used my rotary hackle pliers, but it seemed I was still twisting the hackle, so I'm wondering if there are any tricks for using the pliers. I wasn't tying parachutes and I don't have a true rotary vice. Thanks again, Randy
starsky 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2013 when preparing the hackle, strip some fibres from the upper most side. so when your first turn goes on the hackle does not twist!
JasonJones 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2013 Holding the handle to the rotary pliers at a 90 degree angle from the jaws will allow you to rotate around the shank wrapping hackle, and the pliers will rotate and spin to keep the hackle from twisting. So the handle will be parallel to the hook shank... jaws inline with the hackle being wound.
m_grieb 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2013 I found that keeping your hackle a little tighter when wrapping keeps it from spinning Matt
