One of my favorite trailing patterns....

 

 

WD 40
Hook: 12-20 Scud
Tail & Legs: Mallard Flank
Body: 70 or 8/0 Black
Wing Case: Mallard Flank
Thorax: Black Dubbing
Thread: 70 or 8/0 Black

When I saw this I was expecting some kind of wake fly or buoyant dry fly from the name. Water Displacement formula 40 (WD40) would seem to suggest that. Still, nice fly. I could see it working here tied with a very bright green body.

A couple years ago everybody was nailing fish on these. Still one of my favorite patterns ever.

I like the WD 40 and WD50, in a variety of colors. Olive has been my most productive, with Black a close second.

I think the WD refers to it originally being tied with wood duck. Nice video. Thanks. Are those the standard Danvise jaws? they look finer than mine.

Sorry I've been off the grid for a bit doing some fishing up north. I agree with all the above, nice easy pattern you can tie them really small and fish them well behind a dry or nymph.

 

Standard danvise jaws in the video, but a different vise in the picture....happy to say any new videos made after Thursday will be on a new Renzetti 2000!!!
