I started bending hooks a year or more ago. I can bend them and shape them, but haven't been as successful at tempering and finishing my hooks.

I have to temper tools I resharpen at the j.o.b.. One trick I learned as a sailor was immediately after the temperature is reached, probably just beginning to glow, quench the hook with silicon spray. The silicon will come out at about -5 to minus a lot more degrees. This will temper my tools, maybe it will work on hooks.

Didn't realise there was fur stuck in the thread wraps until I varnished the head. Ah well. Will still fish fine

River Severn you lucky fella. Any attempts on barbel with flies??

I've not tried yet. I've got a couple places in mind to try though :D

I'm thinking small shrimp and nymph patterns that ride hook point up would work wonders

If you have any jig hooks tie a cased caddie and don't neglect something lightweight in the warmer summer river but keep tight hold of the rod!!!

Ohhh didn't think of jig hooks, thank you!

I've caught them on bait before. Anticipating that fight on a fly rod is gonna be amazing!
