Joe Hard 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Here is a questiom for all of you. Why do you think a Salmon takes a fly?
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 In the GL area they strike for a couple reasons. One is out of anger from seeing a bright fly going past them when they are in the spawn mode. The other is a natrual instinct when they see something that reminds them of a food source that they use to feed on in the big lake. SD

Guest Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I think they take a fly because swimming gets boring after a few months.
Airhead 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Spawning fish will also grab an egg simply as a way of eliminating competition for their offspring (if it's coming from upstream It's not their egg).
Guest Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Depends on where you're fishing for them. In the salt and saltflux, they'll still feed. Have caught a few barely entering the main rivers (still salt influenced) that aggressively hit food sources (baitfish and shrimp patterns). In the rivers, it's mostly an aggression thing. Lots of flash and movement will provoke them. Eggs will work too. Hottest "bait" for kings is a big bait of eggs drifted (or under a float) through a hole.
