building your own pontoon

Recommended Posts

after some careful thought about a sedar strip pontoon, I think I'll have to put that one on the back burner for awhile, as beautiflul as it would be, I'd still end up paying close to what I'd pay for real toons if I bought them. Back to the drawing board wallbash.gif

Just curious, has anyone ever made a frame out of thickwall PVC for one of these rigs? I would think that with enough cross struts etc. it could be done pretty well and with all the fittings available all you would need is a saw and waterproof glue.

Not very sturdy as the more you brace it the more you weaken it, I had a Zodiak Fish Hunter, the only seats were blow up cushions. I took P.V.C. and made frames for two chairs, that were covered with lawn chair strapping. They layed accross the boat and had back rests. Not only would the cold effect them so will the heat. They were scrapped and I used a cross brace from a construction stage. It was also used as a frame for a small trailer. It was a cool set up.
