frogeyes 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2013 I found a supplier of chenille with bulk rolls of white for 16 dollars shipped for 3000 feet. My question is can you dye chenille, and if so has anyone bought in bulk to try this?
Piker20 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2013 I guess its going to depend on the material used. If it is cotton or polyester type fibre it should take dye well. Lots of threads on dying in search box. If its a nylon based fibre you might find that harder.

utyer 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2013 I would stick with poly chenille rather than cotton.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 IMO you'll be happier to spend your $16 on several cards of different types, sizes, and colors of fly-shop chenille.... in general chenille is very inexpensive and if you're like most fly tyers, 5 years from now you'll be sitting at your bench looking at a 2950 foot skein of white chenille. ditz2 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 Amen.......Synthetics can also be dyed. Some may require heat, as in boiling, but it can be dyed.

Good call JS! No matter how much of a cheapskate I am I would at least go to the craft store if you're that against going to the fly shop but there certain things you should probably just get at the fly shop, thread, chenille, hackle, etc.
