KCJerryD 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2013 Tied a few over the weekend. I thought this one was the best so far. Don't have it mastered but it's definitely getting easier and better. Going to have to hit the fly shop for some materials for a few new patterns. Any suggestions for new patterns for a newbie? Jerry

Dcap240 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2013 What kind of fish are you after? Tie the stuff you fish with. Check out Fly anglers online beginning fly tying, it has step by step instructions for beginner patterns, work your way through it and then there is an intermediate section next. Whatever you want to tie will tell you what materials to get. Try something with a dubbed body, maybe some hares ear nymphs or something. Dubbed bodies are harder then you think for a beginner, getting the proportions right is not easy at first. My two biggest problems when I first started was over dubbing and crowding the eye. André Ribeiro 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2013 Hi Jerry, Two more adjustments: watch for the length of the tail, keep all elements with the same measure; when tying the feather, try to keep it's curvature faced to the hook shank, this will produce a palmering hackle with all the fibers toward back. What species you're targeting? Big Hug
