Troutbum11 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 I was kicking around some new ideas for brown trout streamers today and when I left the vise this is what I had. It has 4 articulations with 5 individual body segments and with a wide gap hook at the head. overall 7in long. This wont catch little fish, haha.....I have a pretty good feeling about this one... troutguy 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 Is there only one hook? Do most people tie articulated streamers with one hook or two?
Troutbum11 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2013 Troutguy- Only one wide gap hook at the head of the fly (Covered by marabou in the picture) most people join 2-3 hooks together but I tied it on a chain style spine made from some jewelry pins from a craft store, attached to the front hook. Kinda like the fish skull articulated "Fish Spines" but different, if that makes sense... The reason I tied it this way is because the river I will be fishing it on here in Maryland is a fly-only, single hook only regulated stream. Did some testing with other articulated patterns with multiple hooks and pretty much every fish (especially browns) were hooked by the first hook at the head of the fly. Browns like many predatory fish are programed to eat head first so I think it should work well. Only one way to find out though! This pattern has much more movement than the traditional articulated (Multiple Hook) streamers, but it took considerably longer to tie.
H Dot Verseman 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 Good looking fly, UGLY looking head. I would rework the head on this fly. I would probably tie mine with rams wool. give it a better shape, and a better finished look. will it fish better- maybe, maybe not- but it seems like a better option on this flies body. Istripbuggers 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 Man, I've had serious trouble with wool heads. To the point where i don't even use wool anymore.. I'm on a big senyo kick recently, to each there own, the only true critic is the fish...

flytyer56 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 Nice looking fly! I don't think I could throw a 7" streamer on the 4wt. LOL!

MikelC 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 On the same YouTube page I found another version "EP Game Changer"
H Dot Verseman 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2013 i've used EP, but never for heads. thanks for the videos, i'll take a look. I've never had a problem with wool heads though. been tying and fishing them 5-6 years now.
Troutbum11 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Haven't really messed with wool heads that much but I'm definitely gonna give it a go. They look fairly simple. Just recently joined the articulated bandwagon so I'm just throwing around pattern ideas to see what every one thinks. Thanks again, All the feedback helps for improvement! Cool videos too by the way MikeIC !
Crotalus 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2013 Is there only one hook? Do most people tie articulated streamers with one hook or two? You can go one, two or even three or more. I usually stick to one or two. When using one you have the option of tying it in at the head or the tail.
