Nice looking bug. Foam wings? That should sit perfectly in the water. Do we have to wait until next spring to find out?

Nice Terje, So how did you color/treat the foam and what kind of foam is that?

Thanks a lot, shoebop :-) :-)

It´s 1mm razor foam in this one. I folded a piece of foam and burned the edges slightly with a lighter before i cut out the body that i wanted.

Then i took a water resistant marker pen and coloured the foam to make the wing look as realistic as i could possibly get it :-)

The original foam is beige btw, which makes it quite easy to colour :-)

A few years ago I played around with similar ideas. The wings I made using a wing burner. To stop them sticking together when you burn them put a cigarette paper between the folded foam (This helps whenever you are using wing burners and you find the materials stick together). Also if you position the wing really carefully in the burner you can create a singed fold along the top.

For mine I used Micro Thin Foam which is also 1mm thick in tan.

Cheers,

C.
