November flies from the vise

Recommended Posts

flyDology,

The Stinger Stone...What am I looking at? Is that one hook through the whole fly with a funky bend in it? Is it jointed and the rear hook is tied to a hook that has been cut off? I see mono at the rear. Is that only to hold the bead in place, or is to tie a dropper from. Very cool! I'm just confused. Please explain the construction. The Foam Stone looks good too. Looks like a great Hopper, dropper, dropper set-up to me. Yes I said two droppers.

SILK, there's a tutorial on his blog. The fly is tied on a wide-gap bait hook with point and part of bend removed. The stinger is a glo-bug hook. The mono is to stabilize the stinger, not connect it. Interesting tie and well done.

SILKHDH,

you are right on all accounts. It is a stinger hook with a bead to act as a joint. The mono loop is both to hold the bead AND act as a dropper loop. More info and SBS here

I went to the site to see the fly tying steps. knarly. I like that!!

Between work and hunting season, vise time has been limited. However, I was able to knock out a couple for late season Musky trips. They like flies this time of year BIG, lots of movement, and generally dark colors.
