November flies from the vise

Recommended Posts

Here's a few flies I tied up last night. Pretty pleased with the pictures I can get from my phone with a macro lens on it. First time using it last night.

Here's a few thread midges I tied up to try out his week-end.

They're tied on a sz 16 hook, brown thread with a copper wire rib and head, and tan thread with a silver wire rib and the head is colored with a black sharpie. Then coated with knot sense.

You'll probably find you'll need more (longer) plume of CDC to hold that fly up Wayne. I find its best to tie them in full and trim at the water if you think you need to.

Planettrout, You are a skilled fly tyer! I like the flies you tie very much. But, I have to say that the photo treatment you give your flies, while very dramatic, doesn't really show your flies in a very realistic way. Maybe this is intentional but I would like to see your flies in natural lighting so I can see what they really look like and maybe attempt to tie some myself. I'm sure your scud shown above is not blue (or as blue) but if I were to attempt to tie one like yours, I couldn't from your photo. Just a thought. They are pretty photos but not very helpful. Keep tying

I generally come back and do an entire dozen on a flat background in natural sunlight - when they are completed. Rest assured, that fly is a deep blue...These are KG's SPRING CREEK SCUDS done that way...
