angelo24 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 Going to be tying up some bluegill poppers and I forgot to order some Epoxy what's a good substitute? I was thinking about using my wife's 5 second nail glue but I don't know if it can with stand the aggressive strikes from bluegills and bass. 1st time tying poppers also. TheCream 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 I just recently started using some Liquid Fusion, and have been very pleased with the results. I got mine at a local Joann Fabric store. I saw it in Hobby Lobby, too, if you have either of those stores near you. Easy to use, cures clear, no mixing mess.
agn54 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 I use Aileen's Fabric Fusion and it works great as an epoxy substitute. No mixing but it is water based, so some evaporates as it dries. This means if you want to build up an epoxy body or head, you will need to use a few coats. I imagine Aileen's and Liquid Fusion are probably very similar products but have not compared the two. Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 Those urethanes are great but I found I still needed to use a rotisserie while it set unless I put it on to thick because it did sag but dried evenly on the turner. If one has a fabric store in town and can get the urethanes mentioned I would think there would be a hardware store in town that carried epoxy if you like epoxy. mikechell 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 Uuummmmm ... I kind of feel fly tying takes some patience. What's the hurry for tying the flies "right now"? Go buy some epoxy.
feathers5 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2013 I used Liquid Fusion and it works great. It holds up to many fish strikes.
