Well I have both of the vises that you mentioned and I love them both equally in different ways. They are just tools and as such they perform differently for different people and you should try them both and see how they work for you. Myself, I like the Rezetti for doing all of my small tying, dries, nymphs, wets etc. while I like the trekker for my larger work, decievers, streamers, spinning hair. I have the midge jaws for my trekker but I don't think I've used them more than once, when I first bought them. I leave both vises set up each on one of my portable benches. and I just grab whichever one I feel like tying on that day. Have i ever spun deer hair flys on the Renzetti? yes I have because it is more portable and if I have to grab and go, I take the Renzetti. However when I'm home I would be spinnig hair on the Trekker and have a little easier time of it. They are both quality tools and you couldnt go wrong with either one. Have fun on your new tool whatever it ends up being!

Though I don't have a Renzetti I have tied on them. At one point I did have a DK Trekka. It was a great vice. There is only one problem with it that would push me in the direction of the Renzetti if I had your choice.

When I had the Trekka I was tying mostly small flies. That meant that I used the midge jaws most of the time. I found that they lasted me about 6 to 9 months a set. It made the vice very expensive to run. The reason for this is the jaw design. The jaws are made of one piece of metal, that is cut to form the inner surfaces of the jaws. This means that the jaws must be hardened as a single piece. The inner working surfaces are, therefore, hard to access, when hardening them. For this reason I would always prefer a vice with jaws that are made in two pieces. Which means, given your choice, I would opt for the Renzetti.

There is a proviso to this. I tie a lot. You may not tie anywhere near the same number of flies.

Cheers,

A.

I can only advise you to sit down at a local fly shop and tie on their demo vises. It's the only way YOU can determine if it's the right vise for YOU.

Some vises may be similar but just may have things you like or dislike about them. Maybe a hand position or the method of clamping the hook etc.

i have had the pleasure of using and owning both of them.i do prefer the jaws and the way the trekker operate as compared to the renzetti.note this is only my preference and you will need to draw your own according to your tying style.if you live in the upstate n.y. area i would be glad to let you try the dk but i no longer have the renzetti
