eric_sthjrsy 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 For those who didn't respond to my first post, the background is this: This is my first nymph I am trying to tie.... the sum up of the last critique was my proportion were off.... tail was to long, body was to short, legs were to long, and to much thread on the head. I tried again, this time paying more attention to the proportions. Let me know what you think.
Bugsy 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 You paid attention to the earlier responses, and the results show great improvement. It's a good fly with nothing to harshly criticize. Any fine tuning will happen in due course as you settle into your own "style."
SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 Very nice fly and d*mn near perfect. My personal preference is for shorter legs but that just me.

Flyunder 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 Yes, looks much better. Well done. When you start tying them in 18 & 20s you can pick out the dubbing for legs. Like said above, tie a dozen get em right. Then go to the next hook size down and repeat. Really size 20 and under you don't even need to use dubbing. But this is later on. mikechell 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 Still warm and fishable here in Florida. If you want to tie a dozen of those and send them down, I'll tell you how the fish like them.
shoebop 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 The body proportions are as good as anyone could hope for. Well done!
bigdewy 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 That fly would definitely rip some lips here in the Sierras. Very nicely done my friend!!
notenuftoys 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2013 Hmmmm..... Perhaps a dozen, sent to my address, will allow me to more closely judge your effort. ;-) Just kidding. Looks really nice. It's proportioned close enough the fish won't care.
eric_sthjrsy 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2013 thanks for the responses guys, going to keep working on these and maybe try out the GRHE as my second nymph
TTD 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 My personal preference is for a slightly shorter, slightly sparser tail, but that is my tying style showing through. Overall, the proportions look great!
oldtrout58 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2013 You've got it! Now you need to seine your water for nymphs and adjust your creation as needed. Thinner, thicker, longer, shorter... I have no doubt that fly will work where I fish.
miltiades 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2014 great looking fly, If you master the pheasant tail and hares ear, you will have all the skills you need to tie every nymph you need to catch fish. Just change up the colors.
