Q: wally wings

Hi guys,

 

I've just started tying wally wings and i wonder what type of feathers you are using? I like mallard flank for the larger flies but for the smaller ones i haven't found a good feather jet!

If you have tried tying with Mallard flanks, try using Mallard brest feathers. Either Drake or Hen would get you the smaller sizes you are asking about. Hens would get a very different color than the Drakes too.

I like to use hen pheasant, partridge or chicken hen saddles.

Guinea fowl or Teal body feathers work well.

Thanks for the tips! I really liked the wings made out of CDC! it should do the trick on smaller flies.

The mallard breast have beautiful markings, i have to source a bag!
