Flat Rock native 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 eide and piker 20, Those are some fine fishcatchers. Eide, the vise I went with is found at www.hmhvises.com and is the Premium Tube Vice Package. It was $269 at full retail. It is their top of line model with tube jaws and standard jaws. There may be others that work as well, I went with this because I shop local when it is not stupid to do so, and my Sheridan, WY flyshop was an HMH dealer. I am very happy so far and a local commercial tier uses this vice for all production and recommended too.

FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 Jam, what did you use for the body on that fly?? Just used twisted floss applied with a bobbin to give a ropey effect, then clear flashy mylar and tinsel, front part i think is a purple simi seal. Camera does not really pick up the effect. Bonus Leblanc pattern!

Piker20 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 hi Alpine, the quill? Its 4 strands of fine tips of arctic fox for the tail. Stripped peacock quill for the body, at the thorax I tie in the tip of a grizzly feather, form a small thorax with a tiny amount of fur from rabbit tail, wind hackle forward and tie off. Yes hopefully work well for caenis and small olive hatches as well as the various midge we have.

Christopher K 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2013 try picking a salmon pattern first, there are a lot of rules to follow to get a fly to turn out nicely, try checking this site out as well http://www.classicflytying.com/
