rainbow27 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2013 just wondering if anyone knows of a simple pattern for imitating a shad for bass
Fish For Life 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2013 Probably as good a bass fly as you can get will be a black and white clouser minnow. Simple to tye and very effective, black on the top and white on the bottom, slip in a bit of crystal flash and you will have a winning fly for sure. Another really good shad pattern that i have used is one with ep fibers. A bit harder than the clouser minnow to tye but also a very effective patter. Cant get a much better fish imitation than with ep. Good luck.

Guest Report post Posted December 29, 2013 Here's some I came up with for a friend...The top 2 have craft fur dubbed around lead eyes. The others have epoxied eyes or glued on... Another "type" can't remember which member came up with it. Got it on here...

Guest Report post Posted December 29, 2013 Po mans EP fibers from kids hair pieces, $1 ea. From DollarTree. They look almost transparent. I think that makes'em especially "fishy" looking...
sniperfreak223 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2013 This is one I came up with recently, it looks a lot more difficult than it really is. The tail is two long-ish hen saddles, tied in deceiver-style, with a few wraps of the webby butts in front to build up some bulk, followed by two clumps of either bucktail (size 1 and larger) or calftail (size 2 and smaller) behind the eyes and another clump of buck/calftail on the back, Thehead is then built up by tying in and folding back clumps of Senyo's Lazer Dub in appropriate colors, then trimming to shape if necessary. Guest Report post Posted January 2, 2014 It works fine...flexible, translucent shine, uniform diameter. It just does not "bulk up" like congo or EP fibers. Here's some on small streamers...
essequamvideri 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 Thanks for the idea. I'm going to look for some and try it. I can't imagine 2014 without buying something that I don't need for tying flies. Michael
