January Flies from the Vise

Recommended Posts

That's exactly what they are sniperfreak. Some crazy legs, Krystal flash, dumbbell eyes and you're good to go. Based it off the carp tease, but has some better action. Good for Smallies too.

With your permission I'd like to add a dozen or so of these to my Presque Isle Bay carp box. I alwaysask first since a guy on another forum gave me hell for using one of his patterns without his permission a few years back.

AK Been tying my like Wulffs with Wally Wings rather than the usual calf tail for years. (See my pic left). The issue with the calf tail is that they often fall face forward on the water. With a Wally Wing they don't. I've not had any problems with them, and none reported from customers. I've several hundred White Wulffs with Wally Wings to get tied this month ready for the Mayfly season.

Something you might like to try with the third one (with the CdC hackle) is to tie in a length of doubled floss before you wind the hackle. (I presume the CdC is set into the thread or dubbing loop). As you wind the hackle tease the fibres up and back with each turn. Then pull the floss forward splitting the CdC into two bunches like a thorax cover on a nymph. You will get a few errant fibres below the hook shank. Trim those out. Then you have a Petitjean style dun. They are hugely effective. This one doesn't have the Wally Wing but will give you the idea what I mean.

I'll have a play with incorporating a Wally Wing. Could be interesting.

Cheers,

C.

No problem AK. What I know has mostly come to me the same way so passing it on is a duty, and the way I repay them.

I'll be starting at the vice soon. SSS first! I'll have a go at the Wally wing in an MP Dun and post the result.

Cheers,

C.

3 more tubes for spring.

Playing with Juri Shumakovs bullet idea. I like the fact it presents a big shape with good weight without having too much material so it still sinks deep quickly.

A small copper alistair.

I decided some therapy was in order so tied myself some of these.

PeaandPartridge_0001_zps5121457c.jpg

Hook: 14 Wet fly.
Thread: UTC 70 Blue dun.
Body: Dyed red stripped peacock eye herl, coated with Diamond Fine UV resin.
Wing: Starling.
Hackle: Grey partridge.

Feeling much better now, will feel even better when I can go out and use them again.

Cheers,

A.
