HI Flysmallie

Love the Bite Me eyes you have on the top fly.

Can you share where you got them from as I have a Soft Plastic Lure Company called Bite Me Baits in South Africa

Great flies Gunger!

May i ask what you use for body material on the one with the silver bead?

Its nymph skin colored with a permanent marker in both of them. Or do you mean the "house"?

Yes, i mean the house :)

Haha ok, sorry! It's Brown antron, about 2 cm long fibers in a dubbing loop that you cover the body with. Then you get you're lighter and burn the fibers.

Should work with alot of synthetic dubbings, not just antron.

I'll venture a guess here...the bodies are Wapsi Foam Spider bodies, one glued to each side of the hook, and the legs look like Wapsi Foam Ant bodies, folded and glued to create the bend. add some permanent marker and decal eyes, and done.

One for sunday morning:

Hey eide, I have a question for you, and I am in no way trying to be offensive

I notice on most all of your hair wing flies that you have your wing stick straight up, as opposed to have it lay down along the top of the body. Is there a reason for that? I have no idea so it would be great to learn something from you! Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt, its what's known as Scandinavian style. The extreme ones would be flamethrowers where the wing really does stick up nearly 90. The key is the hair used, needs to be softer hairs like fox and racoon that hold their profile but will push down in flowing water and pulse. Bucktail would be too stiff and goat for example too soft, although goat makes a good topping for the fox.

Piker20 explains the style good: I use Arctic Fox and Temple dog for my hairwings and they flow great in the water! I'm just getting into hairwings this winter, and being from Norway this style of tying and the patterns used for salmon over here is where I get the style from

I tried it when i got home from work but only had angora dubbing. Didn't have the best results though. Didn't get that "melted" effect.

But i'll keep trying :)
