Fish For Life 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Im trying to tye some small hoppers (size 12 and under) and was wondering what are some good patterns to try? A creek that i like to fish doesn't have many big fish so im wanting to use smaller hoppers for the small fish. If you got any small hopper patterns it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Dcap240 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 My favorites to tie small are the letort hopper ( sometimes I add legs to them, either pheasant or rubber) and Schroeder's parachute hopper.

JasonJones 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 My favorite small hopper pattern that just slays em on small creeks is the Arizona Wanderings Mini Hopper (http://www.azwanderings.com) I made a video tutorial on how to tie them a while back on my site, check it out if you want to learn the pattern. http://www.azbythefly.com/fly-tying/dry-flies/10-video-az-wanderings-mini-hopper
mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 Go to the SBS forum and look at "Mike's Golfing Cricket". I've tied this pattern on a 10 hook, but it could go smaller. Works well here in Florida. I don't know how to link the thread to this one or I'd do that.
Kimo 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 I like Charlie Craven's Baby Boy Hopper. This is the cricket version of it in black (intheriffle.com). Just tie it in olive as a hopper.Kimo
Bryon Anderson 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 I've done very well with the classic Madam X in olive, size 12, here in Michigan. Caught my two largest dry-fly browns ever on that pattern.

phg 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2014 Kauffmann's Stimulator is, basically, a small hopper. Some people add legs, but it works very well without.
