JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2014 my best crappie fly by far the last few springs has been very simple--- #6 standard dry fly hook, tail of marabou as long as the hook shank, ice dub body, and bead head. Crappie have big mouths and I like at least a #6 hook. Best colors have been white/pearl, chartreuse, pink, or white/pearl with a small hot pink collar behind the bead. In stained water down south, I caught a lot of nice crappie on #4 Clouser Deep Minnows, black over purple. Don't know why that color combo did so well, but it did. I know several guys that swear by crappie jigs with purple and/or black. The two favorites were always purple/black and purple/chartreuse. Maybe there's something to it. BigDaddyHub 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2014 A great go to pattern for crappie in Kentucky is the good ole white bugger.......when the water warms I add a little chartreuse to the head with great results. Have fun experimenting with different patterns!
