steeLerfan86 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2014 Hi everybody, I love this forum my ? is do you like your humpies foam back or original elk hair .Also does one float better than the other .Thanks
Mechanical Advantage 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2014 Both are great. Foam may be a little more durable and float a little higher, but I'm a sucker for tradition. You can always coat the back of a traditional humpy with some resin for additional durability.
netabrookie 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2014 I like mine with a strong drink and a nerve pill...I'm just joking of course but they do drive me nuts sometimes. The foam are ok I guess but I agree with the traditional aspect of the pattern.
Bugsy 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 Hair  I tie more royal humpies than standard, so I'm generally using moose body for the tail and hump.  I don't fret over the hump fraying a bit. Adds to the bugginess. Besides, the humpy is a pattern I actually like to tie.  I've never tried a foam hump. Maybe I'm missing out. Guess I'll never know. sniperfreak223 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 I like mine like these...floss body, black calf body hair for the tail, white calf body hair for the wing, brown or brown/grizzly mixed hackle and a "hump" of either deer or elk hair, whichever I happen to have on hand (these are deer hair). Piker20 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 I like the fact the hair sits a little lower. Took my first Orkney brown on a hump so forever bias.
flytire 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 the foam hump would be easier to tie but learning to tie the traditional hair style hump/wing combinatoin is probably more beneficial in learning proprtions  i like the traditional hair style over the foam  http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=
steeLerfan86 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 Hi Everybody Thanks for the response I've always tied the hair back but was wondering if the foam would be better thanks again

ashley 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2014 Thinking about it, I like the tradition of the hair seeing as though I have tons of it (I use deer) but like the look of the foam Humpies I'm tying at the moment as they seem slimmer and more mayfly like. shoebop 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2014 I dont think the foam back would help make it float any higher or longer IMO since the foam is presumably above the water line anyway. Just an observation... no experience one way or the other. Traditional Humpies are notoriously good floaters anyway. Â BTW am I the only one with a dirty mind or did the subject line make you think this was a porno topic?
