Fly Tying Bench JayWirth

Recommended Posts

I have my bench set up for production jig tying. This has been great for jigs and the occasional bucktail streamer (sill with my Universal II 30+ years). I have been getting much more serious into fly tying but disliked the thought of changing things on my bench - too much hassle. The solution was to get a second bench. Being just across the river from the birthplace of IBM these types of benches are a pretty common surplus item. The bench on the left is my old reliable bench handed down from my father who tied on it for decades (also IBM surplus). The bench with the drawers I found on craigslist just a block from the old IBM plant. Some scrap wood and 30 minutes I added a shelf similar to my old bench. I still need a new lamp and drafting stool but have a Renzetti Presentation 3000 which should be here Wednesday.

The two lamps are also IBM Surplus both acquired used in the early 80's. With the new bench the light arm seems a bit too short. Im looking at a halogen lamp that will attach to my vise.

You can put in outdoor led flood light bulbs 90 watt equivalent would do the trick. I am doing this when i rework my tying area later on this year. Tons of light and 20-40000 hour working life you may wear out the lamp before the bulb.
