Piker20 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 Ok folks Eide has joined the swap meaning its 2 extra flies to tie. Plenty of time till May so shouldn't cause any headaches.
eide 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2014 Great! One question though: not bigger than #20, but is there a lower limit
Piker20 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2014 Nope, the adult body is sometime only 3mm. I'm hoping with this set of flies I'll have some insipration and a box of 14 patterns to take into the hills in the summer and catch a troot.
joseph russell 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2014 Ok got my hooks ordered and on there way yee! I think I maybe better order me one of them magnifying lights as well lol
joseph russell 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2014 Oh man oh man oh man are these things small . I'm gonna need one of them lights that magnify .
Piker20 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2014 Its a test more of your thread control than anything else. You only need the minimum turns to hold material and the minimum material to make the pattern. I found when I got started I rattled off 7 in no time. So pleased was I that I have done a dozen for my own boxes while I was at it.
joseph russell 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2014 What size thread would be good
Piker20 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2014 I like 14/0 shear. Some use trico 17/0 some use their normal 8/0 thread.

vicrider 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2014 Heck Joseph, those hooks look big in the pic. I tied the first batch on the size 20 straight eye like your U003 and as a spent wing they look huge next to the 24 emerger. I really like the looks of the spent wing and don't know if the tie could be much smaller than a 20 but the emerger can be.
