Steve P 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 I'm looking for a step by or a video on how the 10k baitfish is tied. I love the profile and with white bass runs quickly approaching I'm needing some good shad imitations. I tie lots of high tie shad and the like but I love tying and playing with new patterns more than anything. Anyone have anything they could help me out with here? I think I have it but they don't look just right yet Thanks fellas. Steve
Piker20 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 They look quite basic, he gives a recipe of SF flash for the body and SF blend for the head. Use UV resin to shape the head. As with most of the flies with this profile, too much material is the killer. Tapering scissors help to achieve that shape if you tie in materials of wrong(?)length and the less you tie in the more translucency you achieve. Steve P 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 So far I have all of that... Problem I'm having is it looks like he is simply hollow tying the sf blend but not building in front of the fibers. I may be wrong here I really don't know. I googled for probably 45 minutes trying to find something.
Panama Red 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 I just did an SBS for you, post here in a sec… Tied on a Gami SC15 2/0 Tie in gills mid shank Prepare two hanks of material 3"-3.5 long. I used Slinky Fibre, you could use SF blend also. Tie in as shown I used CCG Hydro to shape the head, I think liquid fusion would work as well. I don't like thick coated heads…Just my preference. Attach eyes and go fishing.
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 Nice job Dave - I think the LF would work too; been meaning to try it. Maybe apply it with a brush.
Steve P 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 See I had the right idea. Just a little off on the tie in points and quantity. I'll probably use silicone for the heads. I've always liked it since I started playing with pop fleyes many moons ago. I've just been trying to tie the materials too sparse. I really appreciate the sbs Thanks a ton. I'll see if I can get a pic to upload here later.
