go-n-fishn 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 Just wondered if anyone has used that Thompson Cobra Vise. The design is kind of interesting and I just wondered how it worked.
Guest Report post Posted January 31, 2005 I had one, good for small flies, not good if you tie a lot of Clousers. doesn't hold large hooks very well, and the jaws explode. Happened to me twice. If you want an offset arm rotary vise get a Renzetti or Dyna-King.
go-n-fishn 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 Thanks for the info. Looks like I can save some money on that one anyway.
lewy271 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2005 I have one I like tying on it but am afraid of it because of the exploding jaws, it it ridiculous....I would warn anyone looking for a multi-purpose vise to never ever buy this vise. It is still my only because I don't want to part with the money on a barracude, but I will replace it soon enough. Flying metal had just missed my eye, and the company was real lax about the whole thing, but replaced my jaws at no cost . I was really hoping that they would engineer a better set of jaws for the vice, but doubt they will. Not to mention the hook holding issues...If they would solve the issues with the jaws it would be a wonderful vise. But I am disappointed that I had spent the money on it. Okay I'm done ranting. Thanks...
go-n-fishn 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 If the jaws are exploding like you say it sounds to me like they have a heat treat problem on their jaws. Poor quality control. They must be to brittle. go-n-fishn
