Caddis vs Midge

Recommended Posts

NO! Not wrong at all, they are not Allen's hooks any longer - they're yours. You tie whatever you like on them.

You have highlighted a pet hate of mine. I really don't like hook makers trying to tell me what I should tie on a particular hook. I'm not familiar with the particular hook that you are talking about, but I suspect it is a curved shank. Therefore it is suitable for any fly that needs a curved shank. If it is light enough wire you can tie dries on it if you like.

Don't swallow the marketing, If it looks right to you, and works, then it is right.

Cheers,

C.

Looking at Allen brand hooks. Their caddis hook looks like a good midge hook... wrong?

Truth is, you can use a hook anyway you like. Be careful not to get snookered into using a certain brand hook. Focus more on the style you need. There are a lot of decent hooks on the market.

Have fun tying!
