Fish For Life 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Thats a pretty cools looking fly!! Few questions though. If you going to make everything bigger and stronger why not do so with the hook to; if it was my fly i would use a bigger hook, especially if you targeting musky. Just my opinion. Also, how heavy is it?? What size rod are you using to be able to cast something that heavy??
FlySlinger 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Actually the hook is a darn big hook already...Its a big bass hook with a wide gap and a heavy strong shank......It would take a 9 or Ten wght Fly rod to handle it..... It is pretty thin it is a rabbit skin it isn't made from lead...it will cast I also make this fly into a smallmouth fly it's a hot petunia believe me..... Talk to you later FlySlinger
Fish For Life 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2014 Know that i look at it compared to your vise i do see that your hook is fairly big. How long is this fly in total?? Ive never though of putting spinner blades onto my bigger pike/musky flys, how do you retrieve flys like this?? do you do a constant retrieve to keep the blades going or more of a jerky retrieve? Chefben4 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2014 That hook is too small in my own opinion. Ive been fishing for them for years and use generally 6/0-8/0 hooks. Fish for life.. I use blades a lot for musky. I generally do a two handed retrieve with them to keep the blade thumping.
Christopher K 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2014 I agree with Chef on this one, that hook is way to small and will bend very easily by the looks of it, look for something like an octopus hook, they tend to be made with much heavier wire. Apart from that good looking fly!
