Does fenwick still make fly rods??

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if Fenwick rod company still makes fly rods. I haven't been able to find anything on fenwick's main site about fly fishing products. If anyone knows of a site where I can find current fen wick rods avalible that would be great! But like I said, not sure if they even exist anymore.

Thanks for the Help!

I own three Fenwick rods so I found this interesting. Apparently the only make Eagle GT Fly rods anymore. My Fenwicks are all old. One a fiberglass (1970), one an HMG graphite (1980's) that my one son adopted and one a graphite spinning rod (also 80's). Still use them from time to time.

It is hard to find the fly rods on the web site.

It took me a while to find them on the website too troutguy -- once I saw the Eagle GT at Sportsman's Warehouse, I looked under that series on the Fenwick site, and even then had to scroll down a ways to find them.

They do still make them, but as far as I know there are no glass models made anymore, sadly.

Thanks for the info guys! I thought they did but couldn't find any. Not much of a selection though unfortunately. Im thinking about getting the Eagle GT 9' 8wt. I need a heavier rod for throwing pretty big flies (Thinking Pike) I don't want to sink a bunch of money into a larger rod because pike fishing isn't something I do a lot of, just recently got into it. Anyone have experience with the Eagle GT series or better yet the 8wt that's available?

Thanks Again!

I own a couple Fenwick glass rods, and I positively adore them; my FF 75 is probably the "one" rod, if I could only have one.

No idea why fiberglass became so shunned as a rodmaking material; it makes wonderful fly rods.

My 'heavy' rod is a 9' 8wt, its not a bad rod, I have trouble getting it to cast short distances but once I get some line out its casts all good. I am very partial to Fenwick, I learned to fish on a HMG, sadly I broke that rod on a salmon in Alaska a few years back, they replaced it with 2 Eagles at no charge so I cant complain. All in all I consider the Eagle GT a good rod for the money.

More and more companies are coming to the realization that you are correct. Fiberglass is almost but quite as nice as fishing with bamboo but most young guns want the high line speed and sizzle and tight loops of graphite. As their arms begin to take the toll of that much pressure and generated force the "soft" rod market is heating up.
