RCFetter 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2014 It's a nice movie about Megan Boyd, a Scottish female salmon fly tier. Seems like many people did not know about her until she passed away in 2001 and the NY Times did an obit on her. Here's a link to the obit: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/11/sports/megan-boyd-eccentric-master-of-fish-flies-dies-at-86.html
TheHound 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2014 I've watched the documentary and thought it was pretty good. For anyone who is interested, Davie McPhail did tying video of one of Megan's patterns.

RCFetter 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2014 Thanks Hound. I did not know McPhail did a video on her. Also, there is some controversy about someone in or involved with the film stating that he was a student of Megan Boyd. As discussed in the Classic Fly Tying forum, there is proof the guy was never taught by Megan Boyd. Apparently she wrote a letter stating the guy was advertising himself as her student and she never met him. Here's the thread from the Classic Fly forum: http://www.classicflytying.com/index.php?showtopic=49579&hl=boyd
Crackaig 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2014 I never met Megan Boyd but used to drive past her old house every day on the way to work. I know a lot of people in the film. I even make an extremely brief appearance for about half a second in the scene of the pipe band at the opening of the Helmsdale. Like a lot of films today its really a half hour programme padded out to an hour. Parts of it I thought were great others not so. A real curates egg of a film. Cheers, C. angler2014 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2014 Hey Everyone, Although it's on Netflix, I bought the Deluxe Edition of the film on http://buy.kiss-the-water.com/ and it is definitely worth it. It includes lots of great bonus content that Netflix does not have. You could also just buy the bonus content for $5. You should all check it out and let me know what you think! -G
singletrack 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2014 Nice video just watched it. I really like the animation even though at times it felt a bit like filler. Nice shots of people tying full dressed flies.
Randyflycaster 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2014 I liked the film, though I thought it was a bit too long. Randy
