Crackaig 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2014 Silver, that is exactly my point. One or two very specific uses the rest of the time you just don't need it. It can even work against you. Cheers, C.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2014 I make my own wax, too. I just wiggle my finger in my ear every few minutes while tying.

bellevue.chartreuse.trout 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2014 LMAO (Mike)... whew..... Is that Salt air making the earwax any 'tackier' Mike? I'm in SIlverCreek's camp - I have not waxed so much over the years. However, when I did wax it helped control what it was I was doing - it did hold the dubbing in place a bit. Like flytire, and Ty Flier, said - preference. BCT
FlaFly 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2014 Mike... do you also pick your nose for bait?
mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2014 Mike... do you also pick your nose for bait? Ooooooo I hadn't thought of bait. Nose pickings are for head cement. I tend to lose flies to giant fish so fast, I don't know how good a cement it makes, but it works at the bench. Maybe it's because I am actually fishing with nose BAIT!!! It does give the head of the fly a ... sort of ... natural green tint, though, so don't try it on flies you want clear cement on.
