Dzura 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 I'm looking to try and find some small flats in the palm beach area so I can try and get used to sight fishing but I'm not sure where to start looking I would love to go to the keys but that trip is at least a year away for me and I dont want to have to pay for a guided trip until I get more comfortable with it
FlaFly 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 You might want to get in touch with the Ft. Lauderdale Yak Fishing Club http://ftlauderdaleyakfishingclub.org Most folks in FL that fish the shallows do so in kayaks. They could at least give you the benefit of local knowledge. FlaFly 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 Dzura I looked a little closer, and found the following: On the yakfishing main page, there's a link to the New SE Florida Yakfishing Forum. Click on that to get the forum. Most of the posts are from Capn Jim, who hosts the site. Skip down to the "where ya think yer goin" section. The last post is Palm Beach is bitchin. Click there.. Finally! you'll find lots of posts regarding different fishing spots. good luck.
agn54 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Go to Singer Island and check out the Munyon Island area on the north end of Singer. There are mangroves and shallow flats good for wading. There are trout, snook and some reds, as well as the usual jack, blue runner, etc. If you go east of AIA you will need a kayak or canoe since it is an NMZ but has some nice grass flats. You won't be sight fishing like in the Bahamas or Biscayne Bay, but fun fishing and easily accessed from the road. There is (or used to be) a place that rents kayaks there. A cool place to sight fish if the conditions are right, is the beach during the summer when the snook are there. Start at the corner of Jupiter inlet and work your way south (you'll sometimes see snook going airborne after bait pods), or head to Juno pier and walk the beach.
