First Classic Atlantic Salmon

Recommended Posts

First real attempts at a classic atlantic salmon fly: the green highlander, but the green turkey for the wing was not long enough, so I had to improvise a bit over the pattern. When I see the macro shots there are a lot of things to improve, but this was a interesting first attempt at this part of flytying!

My favorite classic pattern, the "Green Highlander". You're headed in the right direction. Well done !

One of these days I am going to have to buckle up and give the pattern a go.

What is around the hook bend, and why? Very nice, better than I could ever dream!

it is cardboard - to protect the hook from scratches

When I took my first Atlantic Salmon tying class with Poul Jorgenson (I'm not name dropping, I just took a class he taught) we tied the Green Highlander. Mine looks like something the cat dragged in. But I have it framed and hanging on the wall.
