djtrout 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 talking about being into wings; this year I've gotten into emergers. Never have before. Started with BWO, expanded from there. Semi-wings I suppose. For a streamer/nymph guy, I am busting out this year with serious dry effort. Oh, and tiny guys. Got to try those little bitty things. Problem is in order to tie on a 26 or 28, I need to carry a magnifying glass to the stream. Guess I'll just do it. Although, I think they make threading accessory tools that small, I'll have to check in on that, because I'm not going to try to attach a 28 fly with my naked eyes. vicrider 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 djtrout, if you have some decent CDC (not all the stuff they send you is) take a look at an emerger/dry called the IOBO. It's an all CDC fly that has been something I've read on other boards is a very good fly for trout on and just under the surface. I've not had a chance to try one but hope to yet this year if health allows me travel. We have nothing for trout near us and travel has been a problem of late. Â My "copy/paste" is screwed but if you google the one of Hans Weilenmann, he is one of the best in the country.
DavidHE 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2014 I hate to see a great trout swap go unfilled, so I'm in. Googled the Grannom Caddis, looking at images there is a big variety. So I will tie that. Aug 25 due date will give me time to test the pattern in the Sierra waters.

wschmitt3 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2014 How about size 12 Adams for the Slate Drake?
wschmitt3 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2014 I don't have enough grizzly hackle that is sized right for a dozen Adams. If it sounds good I could tie up size 16 black x-caddis. I was also going to tie up some Isonychia Emergers I could do either for the swap. I was looking at doing the pattern Tightlines Production has on vimeo (http://vimeo.com/44697346). Â Which ever works. Â Â Edit- I would do the emerger with one less wrap than this one. The x-caddis would be a little more refined than the one pictured. This one is one that has been fished some and was one that I tied very early in my tying.

vicrider 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2014 I'll get mine in the mail Monday. I'm not as happy with them as I could be. Took my time and took a razor to more than one of them before I stuck it in the cork. One set is using the Mallard wings and it was never an easy chore for me. Even when they came out fairly good I never really liked them, but since many fish are caught on that style without any wings they should be fine. The second set I did with hackle tip wings and I like them a whole lot better even if they're not the classic design that the Mallard wings are.
