Southern Appalachian Trout Variety Swap

Recommended Posts

Just got mine in the mail today. Been a hectic week. 3 kids, 5 grandkids, 2 nephews, one extra family of four, and a couple extras floating in and out from other relatives. Camper in the yard, tents in the yard, couch and extra bed full, and one bathroom. Been bush for sure and a morning line for the john. Did my part by being up and done before anyone else and then made a big breakfast almost every morning. Lots of fun but now we're down to 3 grandkids at my son's house but mostly here it seems for rest of summer.

I'll have mine ready this upcoming week, I have razored more than I have made. Being a semi new tyer, I don't want to send junk. My best or it don't make the cut, actually it does make the cut, the razor cut.

Cannonx4, good on ya'. I've been back into tying and swapping for a couple of years now but mine are still of questionable quality, tho good for a fish every now and then. No one can do any better than their best. For some their best is maybe a little better than the rest but we all still do as good as we can and just enjoy the swap and fish the flies if so inclined, or save them s some do. For me, most go into fishing boxes which I almost never get to use but a few get set aside as special now and then. Look forward to your efforts and will know you put your best into them.

Well I am down to only one more to go, almost there. If I don't have to order more deer hair to get that one made. Was curious though what do most people use to mail the flies in to keep them from getting messed up?

I agree with atxdiscgolfer. I always use an Altoids box. I have SEVERAL for just that purpose. Then I mail them in the padded mailers from Wal-Mart. If you have a decent Wal-Mart nearby (we don't) you can get them in packages of 5. I use the 8 1/2 X 11 size to mail them in and include a SASE that is in the 5 X 7 inch size for the return trip. I've never had a problem & the flies always arrive just fine.

Take care

BB

hey I'll pile on: altoids. I think the original altoids were developed when someone observed a fly swap and said, why not package our mints in this?
