Fly Tying

YouTube Shorts video of Bluegill and Bass that were lurking below at our local pond!  Hoped for a Bass or two but at least got an idea what looked at my bait!

Pond Fly Fishing l Damsel Fly Variant

Fished the local pond with the TFO 6wt and OPST Commando Head. Started with a Popper Tube Fly and caught a little Bass. Switched to a Damsel Fly Variant and caught Bluegill and another Bass, too! Damsel Fly got beat up but still caught a fish or two despite losing the fishing fly's tail!

One That Got Away | Micro Fly Rod and GoFish Cam

Fished the local pond using the Two Piece Micro Fly Rod to catch Sunfish and Bluegill for live bait. Plan was to rig up our GoPro and GoFish Cameras for some underwater action shots of fish lurking in the area.

In short order, managed to catch (as well as miss) a fish or two using a simple Midge pattern. Later, switched to a Tenkara fly when I lost the Midge.

Fun stuff, fly fishing with the Micro Fly Rod... was hoping for more fun with the underwater cameras. Ended up only using the GoFish Cam. Did not land a fish but did see what was in the pond lurking as well as got a glimpse of the one that got away... a nice Bass that looked like the 20" one caught last week!

15 Bass Lurking in the Local Pond | GoFish Cam Confirmed

Here is the follow-up video showing the underwater footage taken with the GoFish Cam.  We used the Micro Fly Rod to catch live bait, then baited the camera rig, and struck out... had multiple strikes including one that broke the line. Compared the picture of the Bass caught last week that went 20"; would say yesterday's may have been bigger! Counted fifteen bass in the video; do check our count and let us know if we miscounted.

Bass from last week... actually, a little over a week ago.

Bass that we lost yesterday.... looks bigger!

Why the OPST Commando Head for One Handed Spey Casting | No Backcast, No Problem!

Answering the mail to the question, "Why the OPST Commando Head for One-Handed Spey Casting?"

The main reason we like the OPST Commando Head is it offers us the ability to fish places where our back cast is clobbered. Like when a tree is behind you and there is no room for an overhead or a side cast.

Do check out the video, and let us know why you like the OPST Commando Head!

Fishing updates and related activities from the Team! Had a little ouch that has me slightly out of commission. That said, will continue to work on the DIY Fish Bites Gummy Gum recipe, the GoFish Cam underwater action shots, and the Tenkara rod to catch a fish or two! PS: Also, will post a few TBT YouTube Shorts to remind us that Trout Stocking Season is just around the corner!

Here is one to beat the heat. YouTube Shorts video of the Team wet wading the Lower Illinois River in Oklahoma. Hot temps back then, but cold water that the Rainbow Trout and other fish liked.

Review These Fishing Regulations Before Fishing in Texas and Oklahoma | What's New in 2021?

Decided to review the What's New in 2021 section of the Texas 2021-2022 Season. Had a question concerning one of the new changes to 2021; contacted Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. They replied within the hour. Nice!

Reviewed one new change to the trout regulations in Oklahoma. Was uncertain about the Daily Limits for the Lower Mountain Fork. Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation clarified for me. Had another on related to the Lower Illinois River. Interesting answer... suggest contact them directly.

Skip to 5:17 to see details on the Oklahoma Rule Change for Trout!

Lower Mountain Fork Before The Flood #shorts

Here is another YouTube Shorts TBT video to Beavers Bend and the Lower Mountain Fork River before the flood changed the river to its present state.

It was a fun trip where I fished Spillway Creek, the Cold Hold, the Bluffs, and the Evening Hole. But, as luck would have it, I had lots of action, more like missed strikes at Lost Creek.
