Fly Tying Bench - Dazhan

This is an unfinished project made at university while I completed my 4th year carpentry apprenticeship studies. There's more smoothing of joints to do as well as adding some small walnut inlay pieces at the corners of the plywood top. The wood used was a terribly soft pine, so there's some tear out at the joints. All in all though a good project and I'm looking forward to the final finished box.

Are you planning to put a suitcase handle on it? If you do, how will you keep all the stuff in the bottom part in place? It reminds me of an artists kit I had once, there was a palette that filled all the space so it covered the two halves when it was closed.

Nice fit, nice seams.

I agree with FlaFly though, in that if you carry this on end, you'll get stuff shifting all over.

I am looking forward to the finished product with inlays and ... stains? Varnish?

Eagerly awaiting pictures.

I saw this type of case before only it had lexan doors on the bottom box to keep the items in place while carrying. I will go hunt it up to show you guys.

This is the one I saw. Notice the vice table becomes a door to cover some materials too. I am wanting to make one like this some day only huge..LOL Hey buy the way, yours is nice too.

Very nice woodworking project

Do you have a plexiglass cover to contain the contents on the vise side (bottom)?
