mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2014 Looks like you caught a nice sized "Davie Fish" too! That one hurt to remove, I'll bet. How did you bury that one???
Li'lDave 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2014 Mike, I had just lost a barra (it cut my leader off with its gill rakers) and was a tad grumpy... I don't think I've caught one this year yet, and there is less than two weeks left in the season... Re-tied my leader and put a cast straight into a mangrove... Yanked it so hard out of the treet that it shot back at me at a great rate of knots... and well.. you can see how deep it went in... Thankfully I had a mate on board that was nice enough to enjoy inflicted more pain on me, and he managed to remove it using a bit of downward pressure and some monofilament fishing line. mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2014 That's the best way ... little pain never hurt anyone, permanently.
utyer 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2014 Been there done that (multiple times.) Last week was the last time, and that one was a treble hook. I wasn't fly fishing, and had to find some one on the beach to back the split ring out. Then I taught him how to do the hook removal with a piece of 30# mono. He was a little timid at first, and wasn't really popping the mono hard enough. Once he got the idea of a quick hard snap while I held the hook eye down, it popped right out, and I continued the fish the rest of the day.
Li'lDave 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2014 Thankfully I haven't connected myself to a treble in any permanent sort of fashion utyer. .. In and out yesterday... Most of the time was taken to get a pic to send to the girlfriend.... and to allow my mate to revel in the fact he got to inflict some pain on me...
