Chromez 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and and have been tying for a few months and trying to stock up for steelhead. Ive heard that the Agent Orange fly is one of the better flies and I'm having a hard time finding a pattern for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated also recommendations for other good steelhead flies would be awesome!
Bugsy 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 It's been a number of years since I've seen the proper recipe, so I honestly forget. I believe I used tan yarn for the abdomen ribbed with orange wire. I used an angora goat blend for the thorax with a thin skin wing case. Just a stone nymph profile is what you're after here. The barred rubber tails and legs and the hot orange bead were the real features. Add that hot orange bead and those legs to an Ugly Bug (rubber legged stone) and you'll undoubtedly do as well. The Otis Bug is another option. Try different color combinations on the Otis. Sometimes white legs are preferable. Weight them heavy and use a dropper. tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 There are different flies with that same name & variations. https://www.google.com/search?q=agent+orange+fly&rlz=1C1_____enUS378US378&espv=2&biw=1440&bih=753&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3Q9dVNyqBfbesASjroC4Dg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#tbm=isch&q=agent+orange+fishing+fly+pattern Fishypieter, the one you've posted is what I'm most familiar with. At least variations of the Bonefish pattern.
