Three Suggested Flies for Rainbow Trout....

Recommended Posts

Fished Beaver Bend State Park in Oklahoma on Saturday. The flood from earlier in the year damaged the area and changed key fishing areas but overall it was good to see the fish were still biting!

Used a Five Weight Fly Rod/Reel and fished a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing Prince Nymph. Worked several pools and runs along Spillway Creek.

Hooked a couple of Trout but lost them shortly after when they threw the fishing fly. Also, hooked and landed two nice Rainbow Trout - 18" and 15.5" trout that put up a great fight (as well as a great dinner Saturday evening - see Grilled Plank Recipe).

Several others chased but turned away last minute from the Tandem Rig. Also, of the two that were hooked and landed, both went for the Prince Nymph. However, a GRHEN would have worked as well (as others were getting strikes using them).

Had a great time fishing. Liked that it was warm enough that we could wet wade; no waders needed this round! Also, saws other doing well catching them with bait but unfortunately, was not able to see what baits they were using.

Near Deere and the GRHEN were key to catching them yesterday.... Made it to the Blue River in Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon! Had a great time; limited out with six Rainbow Trout. Caught and released a lot more! Tuesday's Video

Had a request to recap our trips to Oklahoma for Rainbow Trout... here is the summary that start back in August and ends from the last trip we took this past Saturday. Summary of Trips. Near Deere has been a "go to" fishing fly in most of these trips!

Mixing things up some more; tested YouTube's Live Stream feature and used a topic about Fly Line -Leader - Tippet Connections for the test. Still learning how to use the feature but so far liking it! Archived Live Stream.

No fishing today; did catch up on some fishing needs... tying more olive Near Deere fishing flies. Also, while stuck indoors, decided to recap "fish of interest" that the Team caught this past year! Post

Thanks josephcsylvia... does get crowded at times. Ended up going back this morning. Caught a Bass, a little one, else no Trout. Fished another pond with a fishing buddy. I used a Near Deere to limit out! Not a bad day especially on a warm December day! Today's Video

Two of us fished today, limited out using fly fishing gear. Still editing the video. Will post tomorrow. For now, Merry Christmas Post. This round had two go for the Near Deere, else it was the GRHEN save for one that went for a Tenkara style Soft Hackle!
