nice looking fly. i like the use of a silli leg for the furled tail. i have carp on my mind (vise), but i think i might be switching to gills for the rest of the afternoon.
what size hook did you use?
size 10 . 2xl
thnx. this is probably the best answer for a hook size i've seen.
Yep! Good looking bug!
Tis a good looking bug. What is that tail? Twisted something. Did you color it afterward? then added 'sprinkles'? lol.... Still ... neat looking. Show us the bluegills you get with it?!?!?!?
The tail is round rubber from a replacement skirt for a spinnerbait. I furled the tail and used a red sharpie on the tip of tail and legs. The rubber does have sparkly flakes in it.
here is a video that shows how to furl tail material.
i've already tied a fly using this technique after seeing this post earlier today. very cool idea.
Ha, PWB you won't believe it but I tied a "new" bluegill pattern over the weekend using the exact same tailing idea. I saw it on an Orvis ad last week and liked the idea for a bluegill fly. I'm sure it will kill 'em. I'll get pics of mine tonight, maybe. Good work!
Not too terribly dissimilar!
Looks great! They'll eat it!
