black ants

Recommended Posts

I use a lot of black and red ants @ $1.25 a piece when chasing gills. Is there any simple patterens for these little guys. Wiffie bought me a fly tying outfit for Christmas. I have leaned to thread a bobbin, mount the vise, stick my fingers with hooks. Ran acrocc this site while on the net.

Please help. fingers old, tired but I have plenty of time

Here is a good, easy pattern. Search ant fly tying on youtube and you get alot more patterns if you want a different one.

Lots of ants online and on the database (above). Ants can be floating or sinking, and can be made out of just about anything.

Not a great picture but here's one I made using hot melt glue (it comes in colors). Hot melt glue generally sinks but the hackle makes this a dry fly, till it gets soaked.

Like others posted above, I tie mine with pieces of foam.

Like a McMurray Ant, Which uses two pieces of balsa wood, I use two pieces of foam connected. I use braid for the connector.

Tie it on and use what ever you want for legs.

I have a more complete SBS over on
