....for the 2015 fly fishing/tying season?

I'm looking to get out more to our trout streams and fishing soft hackles and winged wet flies

tying and fishing older traditional fly patterns

any improvements to your fly fishing regimen?? casting? reading the waters? taking lessons? etc

I do both fishing and spin fishing, and most of my fishing goals this year regard spin fishing.

But for the fly rod, I'd like to catch my new pb brown trout this year.

Just to get out as often as I can before my first child arrives.

Good goal! Because you aren't going fishing again for quite a while after the baby is born.post-35746-0-98100200-1425562070_thumb.jpg

I'm looking for a record here. State record bluegill is 10 inches long. I have caught and ate 12 inch bull bluegills.

Nah..half my income is hunting/fishing. And I also wanna make sure my kid is in the outdoors as often as possible. My wife just rigged up a mount in her kayak that holds a car seat!

I want to catch a 20" trout this year rainbow or brown either one. I have yet to reach that mark and I think it is time. I may just follow the trophy stocking schedule and hit up a few of the spots where they are dropping off big fish but I have been clued into a few places near by where some browns grow big and feed very heavily on minnows and crayfish for a few weeks after the thaw.

Get my timing down with my 2 handed surf rod such that my line pings on the reel every time, not once every 10 or so casts.....oh and catch some salty surf fish on said rod with a fly.

Get beyond the basics or Euro nymphing, but every time I see a rise I revert to a dry fly.

Land my first musky on a fly rod. Hike to spot that I've been itching to get to for a couple years but never made it. And catch a blueback/sunapee trout, I'll try with the fly rod after ice out... but I hear they're still deep. And maybe I'll go after a few saltwater species with my limited knowledge.

And at the end of last season I started getting much better at one handed spey styled casting, hoping to perfect the technique this summer so I can fish tough to cast to spots.
