SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Rod model and length? Target species? Temperate weather line or tropical weather line? Cost Range? Textured line or smooth line?
HookON 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 G.loomis. Rod. Trout, smooth. $$ not sure
SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2015 The best replies will come from fly fishers who fish for trout and have owned or do own the same model and length GLoomis rod. So "GLoomis" as the rod model and length doesn't give enough information. So you understand the reason we need the information. Asking for fly line recomendations is like asking what is best the tire for your vehicle is without telling us whether it is a truck, car, minivan, sportscar, and where and how you plan to drive, and how much you want to pay. So the more information, the better the answers you will get.

Istripbuggers 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2015 If you don't mind spending the money try the rio perception line. It's suppose to be ultra low stretch line which help with casting, hooksets, mends, ect. Something a little less expensive would be the rio grand, it's designed to be used with fast action rods and is a full line weight heavier then the standard to help load that fast action rod better. SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2015 I'd go with the Rio Grand. It will help you feel that rod load.

And therein lies something that is so important to selling more product today. Lines for everything. Lengthen the front taper a foot and it's a bonefish line. Shorten that taper a foot and it's a carp line. Now you say it's a full size heavier. That REALLY makes no sense. If a 6 wt. labeled is a full size heavier then it's a 7 wt. DOH Now if they are accurate and say it's a half size heavier like many do today that at least makes some sense. This goes to the mfg'er of the rods creating a rod so stiff that the labeled 5 wt. can't load with a true 5 wt. unless you have 45' of line out so line makers gives us half steps now so the ultra fast graphite sticks today can actually be used at normal fishing distances instead of giving us a rod that really works at the listed line weight. Anyway, never mind.
rrogden 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2015 Last fall I tried the Rio Perception. It works as advertised. I have it on three reels now. It has little stretch and I especially like the different colors for distance perception. It is hard for me to worry about a few extra dollars when you compute it all together, makes no "cents". It is the best line I have had.

JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2015 There is no BEST. We have been so saturated with marketing, so gullible to believe everything we read from the marketing people, so eager to believe we can pay for something and instantly be GREAT. People worry so much about the minutiae that they fail to see the big picture. VicRider hit it on the head. Marketing has made it nearly impossible for a novice fly fisherman to make a choice. Go get a six weight floating line of whatever price you can afford, and learn to fish it. If you have the money, get a bargain bin line and get a super-expensive line. FISH them both and see if you can justify the cost of the expensive one.
