thmech 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2015 Teaching a buddy to cast a spey rig last fall. Somehow he got me behind the shoulder with a nice meaty 3/0 fly. That one stung real good.
Stevester 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2015 Like all the other posters I have had a few hooks in me, usually form wind or other force that altered my cast. Last year though I had a first. I hooked a nice rainbow in public stretch between two clubs. As I reached to grab the fish for release (I don't normally carry a net) he twisted in my hand and I felt a sharp sting on my thumb. WTF?. Turns out that I didn't see that this guy had a streamer hook stuck in the other side of his mouth from where my fly had hooked him and this hook was now stuck in my thumb. That one really hurt. Still landed and released the fish though. Steve
NoSlack 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2015 yup that sure stings a bit. I put a 2/0 B10S in my thumb last year..... Fun times! Oh my God I think I'm gonna puke! That pic is N-A-S-T-Y! How in the world did you get such a big hook so deep??? One heck of a shake on a Pike. It was barbless but the hook had gone through a joint. We tried pulling it out on the water... but a quick trip to the clinic and I was back on the water in no time.
Fisherboy0301 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2015 I, in my 12 or so years of fishing, have never had a hook go deeper than the barb into me! My clothes, yes! I remember standing across the local canal from my friend and he castes a jerkbait, 3 trebles, to a bedded bass I was watching for him. He.. Umm... Over castes quite a bit. Thank The Lord for baggy board shorts. The lure hit me right in the crotch. If I'd been in jeans or tighter shorts it'd ruined my manhood and not my shorts... My hat, yes! My flesh, not deeper than the barb, had a poke into me while tying a fly in with wet slippery hands. Have had a 40-50lb blue catfish spit a hook at the boat any the 1ounce lead flew up and hit me right between the eyes! Broke my favorite fishing glasses and left me with quite the story to tell at school the next week! Have hooked a friend, by accident. Was holding the rod as he unhooked a large bass that are a Rat-L-Trap with two trebles. Boat + big boat waves= I tripped. Got the bass and him unconnected. Cut the line. Headed to the ER to get it out. Some reason he still fishes with me.... Lol I'm knocking on wood. I have cursed myself. Sure it won't be long now...
