Jaydub 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2015 Not mine, not flyfishing and almost 40 years ago.... My dad, his buddy Duane, and I were out on the lake trolling with Ford Fenders and either a Flatfish or worms. Duane hooks a fish and starts bringing it in. The fish isn't pulling hard and a couple times Duane even thinks he's lost it, but no, it's still there. The image of a huge brown trout, suddenly appearing from the deep, is etched in my memory. Duane eased it up beside the boat and it just calmly layed there. Dad reached for the net and realized we forgot to put it in the boat. So he tries to tail it with one hand and lift it with the other. But every time he touches it, it starts violently thrashing. On about the third attempt, it breaks off and disappears back into the depths, as calmly as it emerged. I don't know how big this fish was, but the lake record Brown is 22 1/5 pounds so it produces some big ones. It's still probably the biggest non-Steelhead trout I've seen in person.
