jd1983 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2015 Just wanting some feedback on my first couple Clouser's. I know the goal is to have them tied sparse and I feel like mine may be a little too thick. What other things can I be working on?

vicrider 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2015 On the eyes on mine I get holographic eyes that fit the cavity completely, then cover them with UV to lock them in and give them a bugeyed look that can be seen from different angles. Otherwise they'll fish. The white buck behind the eyes has a kind of excessively long wrap to it maybe.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2015 The white buck behind the eyes has a kind of excessively long wrap to it maybe. no, that's true to the way it is tied by Bob Clouser, only jd used too much thread. The wraps down the shank for the white should be widely spaced. Plenty of examples of the Real Deal on line and in Clouser's books.

Henrik Thomsen (DK) 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2015 The Chartreuse one: Cut the thread close to the hook, some are hanging out in front of the fly. Keep the hair on top of the hook for the tails (top of hook is bottom of fly), if they wrap round the sides, the body becomes more bulky and less lean. The Olive one:Tie the tail in farther back, so that the thread ends oposing to the barb. Also here, hair on top of hook is needed. And finally on the body, either sparse or full wrapping of thread, looks a little sloppy the way it is here. I would like to give the wing a good pull, it looks like it is less hard tied in, and that it might be loose (need pulling to find out) - Glue might help here ;-) General, the length of the flies is ok, although it can be sligly longer, but no issues here. The thing concerning fishing, yeah, they will fish, but hey, this is a fly tying forum, right? ;-) Hope you can use the small inputs from me.
Guest Report post Posted May 5, 2015 For a first attempt I would say they look pretty good and certainly fishable! One suggestion would be to tie some sparse....maybe half(or less) the amount of bucktail that you used for these. In my history fishing clousers I have found in the areas I fish the more sparse the better.
zonkermonster83 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2015 Remember sparsly tied clousers using crystal flash are always your friend wether on a river fishing smallies or big trout or on the salt for coho searun cuts or flounder stripers and blues
Gene L 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2015 They look fine to me. Not for the cover of a fly tying magazine, but I see little to criticize unless I go nit-picking. I don't think the fish know the difference on these fine points. They certainly don't care. The olive one is just about right in sparseness, I think. The ones I tie are quickie ties and don't look nearly as good and yet I catch bass on them.
flytire 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2015 both looks good to me clean up your thread wraps would be my only nit pick regarding sparseness - thats totally up to each tyers preference and not a commandment
Guest Report post Posted May 5, 2015 regarding sparseness - thats totally up to each tyers preference and not a commandment I would disagree with that by stating it more the fish's preference in the waters you fish.
