May Flies from the Vice

Recommended Posts

Saw a few march browns yesterday. Knowing that the march brown hatch around here is usually pretty nuts on the first day I tied up some March Brown flies this morning and then had a great day of fishing on them. See the fish pictures thread for details.

Also tied up some hare's ear flymphs this evening.

A pair of lesser know spider flies.

Spiders_0013_zpsmsjluebw.jpg

Hendrick's Spider and Black Magic.

Unusually these are both weighted spiders, so are usually fished as the point fly in a team.

(SbS available if anyone is interested).

Cheers,

C.

Thank you. I had seen them on the water and tried to make them as close as I could without being super realistic.

Just in case I do get to go fishing again...

Some spiders for the lochs, heavier hackled than I would make them for rivers.

Teifi Terror,

Green Lurex Spider,

Mini%20Muddlers_0002_zpsp95bsi9v.jpg

Pearl Spider,

Mini%20Muddlers_0007_zps0cpnzaqc.jpg

All great point flies.

We use small muddlers a lot on top droppers in a team of three on the lochs. These create a lot of disturbance in the surface and often bring fish to the other flies. You will see a swirl at the top fly then get a pull on one of the others. Here are a couple on size 10s.

Muddled Kate,

Firey Brown Muddler,

Finally for the lochs. I may get to go fishing soon, hawthorn and heather flies are about so (Strangely one imitation will do for both despite one having red legs and the other not).

Then the river box needed some attention...

My standard dun imitation, tied in sizes 12 to 20 and various colours. Today I did some 16s.

Not sure about this one, but I'll give it a try.

And some nymphs to hang below a Humpy.

Well that passed a rainy Sunday morning.

Cheers,

C.
